Large, two-sided, heavy piece of Murano aquarium sculpture. Gino Cenedese formed the Cenedese Company in 1946. In 1947 he was joined by Alfredo Barbini as partner. Barbini's career started in 1925 at the age of 13 years old. Both of his parent's families have been involved in the glassmaking industry for generations. He joined as a master glassblower and art director as well as a partner. Cenedese is possibly best known for its aquarium sculptures.

After Barbini left to start his own company in 1950, the aquarium sculptures were continued by Cenedese with Riccardo Licata and others, such as Fulvio Bianconi, Napoleone Martinuzzi, and Antonio Da Ros. The changing artistic directors account for some of the changes in design, but fakes still must be avoided. Many pieces from this time have been separated from their labels.

Pieces attributed to Cenedese and Barbini have been compared to pieces that have not been separated. The bottom of this piece is smooth and polished. The colors are clear and the glass is bright.

It measures approximately 6 1/2" tall, by about 3 1/2" inches wide at its widest point. It weighs close to 4 1/2 pounds. There are 2 schools of fish on each side (no feeding necessary). I also think that a lighted base is nice to show off the deep colors of the sculpture, but is not necessary.

This piece is stunningly beautiful! Please leave feedback upon receiving the item so I will know when you get it.
