Striking vintage Murano Italian art glass vase executed in the Scavo technique , featuring a classical amphora-inspired form with four sculptural applied black glass loop handles. The body has a deliberately weathered, granular surface graduating from warm earth tones near the base into smoky charcoal and black toward the shoulder, while the mouth and applied handles are finished in glossy opaque black glass.
Scavo glass was developed to recreate the aged, mineralized appearance of ancient Roman glass recovered through excavation, giving this vase its distinctive archaeological character. The underside is unmarked, and while the construction and decoration are consistent with documented vintage Murano Scavo production, no specific Murano furnace is attributed. A substantial and unusual example with particularly attractive four-handle construction. Measures approximately 8 wide including handles.
