This large mouth-blowned and twisted art glass vase from Murano, Italy, showcases a beautiful swirl pattern in blue and red colors. Handmade in the 1950s using the Sommerso glassmaking technique, this vintage piece exudes a Mid-Century Modern style. Standing at 13.2 inches tall and weighing 3.22 lbs, this unique vase is a striking addition to any art-themed decor, featuring the iconic craftsmanship of Murano Sommerso Glass. The vase is made using a technique called sommerso, which means "submerged" in Italian.
The technique involves layering different colors of glass without them mixing, creating the illusion of one color suspended within another. This technique was developed in the 1930s and became famous in the 1950s through the work of artists like Flavio Poli and Archimede Seguso. As a sign of authenticity, small air bubbles are a natural result of the hand-blowing process, as are present in this piece. These imperfections are often considered a sign that the piece was made by hand and not mass-produced. I have included several photos which capture the air bubbles.
This is a beautiful piece in excellent condition. A definite must for any collection.
