Perfect, tall (40.3 cm) Vintage Murano Sommerso Multicolor Glass vase

In 1964 (as a 21-year old college kid) I bought this vase myself when I took a speed boat from Venice proper out to Murano Island. Master designers of the 1950's and 1960's experimented with and perfected the Sommerso techniques that required their craftsmen to repeatedly dip molten glass cores into various colored glass pots before sealing the entire mass in a thick envelope of crystal clear glass. The final pieces were then meticulously ground and polished by hand. This elegant technique became a popular mid-century modern design.
