This piece has an acid mark with a logo and the word Murano. These acid marks were usually used in Italy in the 1950s so Im surmising this is a 50s piece. This comment is based on my experience only- its an extremely rare piece and I have been unable to place the maker definitively. It could be a Venini piece- vintage Murano pieces with acid marks are rarely seen. I love how this is an eye-catching piece yet so simple in design.
Its simplicity draws you in and this doesnt happen too often. Simple and eye-catching in one piece is rare and the work of a true creative genius. This piece incorporates two glass-making techniques- the red opaque sections are fascinating and Ive rarely seen this technique used. The opaque red glass appears to have been swirled within clear glass. I get the feeling this piece was done by one of the Italian design heavyweights and if this is the case its worth a lot more than this price.
